Mrs/Pac-Man Cocktail Table
I’m not sure how this mashup of Pac-Man exterior and Mrs. Pac-Man interior came to be, but a friend/co-worker purchased it at an estate sale for 100 bucks(the same one that bought the Korgs). It too was partially working. When plugged in, it would light up, and you could here all the game sounds perfectly; but there was no picture on the screen. I figured, best case, blown fuse, caps, etc… Worst case, blown tube, fried board/s… Either way, a hundred bucks was a good price, even as a conversation piece. So he bought it, and came and dropped it off at my mom’s house till I could get with Uncle Tim and go over it completely. (Side Note – DO NOT mess around with CRT Displays. They contain Extremely HIGH Voltage components, and can literally kill you if mishandled!!!)
And then it sat at Mom’s for about 8 months… At which point, she proclaimed she either wanted it out of the house, OR she was keeping it. But… It had to work… LoL
So I bought it for her. And off to Ebay I went for replacement parts. Luckily the Tube and mainboard were intact; but there were a fair amount of damaged components on the monitor chassis. Blown fuses, blown/leaking caps, broken width coil, and the Flyback Transformer was cracked completely down the side and oozing black goo. Fortunately, between Ebay and Uncle Tim’s stash of ancient components; we were able to bring it back to life!
Where it stands now…
In Mom’s living room. The 2nd Player joystick sticks a little on the left side, but hopefully it just needs cleaning. If not, I’ll try and find a replacement. Other than that, it works great!
